Recently, a major cow smuggling gang was busted at the Ladowal toll plaza in Ludhiana after a vigil by police and cow vigilantes. Approximately 17 quintals of beef was seized from a Mahindra jeep. The consignment was being transported from Amritsar, Punjab to Uttar Pradesh (UP). Police have filed an FIR against six people, two of whom were arrested on the spot.
Gurpreet Singh, a resident of New Professor Colony, Patiala, filed a complaint and stated in his statement to the police that he had received intelligence that a Mahindra jeep was carrying a large quantity of beef to Uttar Pradesh. Based on this information, Gurpreet Singh, along with his partner Darshan Singh, set up a blockade at the Ladowal toll plaza on Thursday (May 14).

Upon arrival, the jeep (number UP-11-CT-0682) was stopped. The jeep was searched and 17 quintals of beef was recovered from it. Following this, both the smugglers present at the spot were immediately arrested and handed over to the police party.
The arrested accused have been identified as Vicky Kumar and Hussain. Both gave information about the route to Scuri and told that Suhail and Sameer, residents of Amritsar, had chopped the beef and loaded it in the jeep. This consignment was to be delivered to Mohammad Taseem and Kesar, residents of Uttar Pradesh (Saharanpur).
The names of the six arrested accused are:
- Vicky Kumar (arrested),
- Hussain (arrested),
- Mohammed Taseem,
- Kesar,
- Suhail
- Sameer.
