News of shootings in Punjab continues to surface daily. Similarly, recently, news of firing outside a businessman’s home in Amritsar’s Chheharta area emerged late at night.
CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced, showing two young men arriving on a motorcycle, firing outside the home and then fleeing the scene. Following the shooting, an atmosphere of fear prevailed in the area.
Police reported that at approximately 12:49 a.m. on May 19th, the Chheharta police station received information about firing in the Kartar Nagar area. It further stated that unknown individuals opened fire outside the home of a man named Jai Chand, a former vegetable seller.

Police arrived at the scene and began an investigation. The investigation revealed that the complainant had a long-standing rivalry with the opposing party over financial transactions. Police believe this incident may have been fueled by that rivalry.
Police stated that an FIR has been filed in this case. Some evidence has also been seized, and efforts are underway to identify the culprits. Police say that the accused will be arrested soon and the matter resolved.
Victim Jai Chand alias Kala Aartia stated that he had been receiving threatening calls for a long time. He also stated that he had filed a written complaint with the police about two and a half months ago and that the DGP, Chief Minister, and Police Commissioner had also been informed of the matter. However, no action was taken.
