Recently, sanitation workers in Ludhiana are going on strike. The Municipal Corporation and various unions will be on strike starting May 15th to press for their demands. This strike will disrupt the entire city’s sanitation system. Garbage will not be collected from any homes, nor will any streets or drains be cleaned.
On Wednesday, May 13th (Wednesday), several unions, including the Sangharsh Committee’s National Safai Karamchari Mahasangh and the Municipal Employees’ Party, submitted a warning letter to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann through the Municipal Corporation Commissioner. Union leaders have threatened that if their demands are not met, the entire city will be filled with garbage, for which the government will be held responsible.

The employees are adamant on five main demands:
1. Temporary sanitation workers should be made permanent with immediate effect.
2. The old pension scheme should be restored for the future of the employees.
3. Door-to-door garbage collection work should not be given to any private company.
4. Employees will not allow the digital attendance system to be implemented.
5. Employees who have attained adulthood should be given permanent relief.
Representatives of the organizations have said that the sanitation system in the city will be completely shut down tomorrow, i.e., May 15th. The government is ignoring our demands. The struggle will continue until a concrete decision is made. To make this strike successful, the Municipal Employees Group Punjab, Municipal Employees Federation, Municipal Corporation Employees Union, VSS, and Municipal Corporation Safai Mazdoor Union Punjab have announced to come together.
