On May 14, a head constable of Chandigarh Police, under the influence of alcohol, hit an Activa rider with his car. When the constable was trying to escape after the collision, people chased him and while driving at high speed, he hit another Activa. After which, angry people surrounded the accused policeman and caught him.
As soon as people pulled him out of the car, he started running away. The constable was wearing a women’s shoe on one foot and a slipper on the other. He had consumed so much alcohol that he did not even know what he was wearing.
The injured Activa rider has been identified as Kuldeep Chand. His right hand was fractured in the accident. Kuldeep Chand was riding his Activa past the government school in Pocket 1 behind the Civil Hospital when a speeding Venue car struck his Activa from behind. Kuldeep fell and sustained serious injuries.

People present at the scene reported that the accused head constable tried to flee the scene after the accident. When people chased him, he hit another Activa rider near Mori Gate Market. Locals then caught him and handed him over to the police.
The Manimajra police station was informed. The police took the accused head constable, Jaipal, into custody. Following the accident, a large crowd gathered, shouting slogans against the police and expressing their anger against the police administration.
People said that if the police, who claim to protect the public, beat people after drinking alcohol, then whom can the public trust? People even said that the police immediately register cases against common people, but when policemen commit mistakes, they are simply made to stand in the line and the case is suppressed.
