Recently, news emerged from Faridkot’s Central Model Jail, where an inmate committed suicide by hanging himself in his barrack on Sunday morning. The deceased has been identified as Swarnjit Singh, a resident of Lalchian village in Guruharsahai (Ferozepur).
It is reported that a drug trafficking case was registered against Swarnjit Singh at the Sadar Jalalabad Police Station (Fazilka) on July 25, 2017, due to which he was lodged in Faridkot jail.

On Sunday, May 3, at around 8 a.m., Swarnjit hanged himself from a cable in his barrack. Upon receiving information about the incident, the jail administration took Swarnjit, who was unconscious, to Civil Hospital, Faridkot, where doctors declared him dead.
Following the incident, jail administration and district police officials arrived at the scene and launched an investigation. Swaranjeet’s body has been sent to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College Hospital for a postmortem. Further investigation is ongoing.
