On Thursday, April 23, Sub-Inspector (SI) Gulshan Kaur died after slipping from a water tank during an exercise at the Commando Complex in Patiala.
Gulshan Kaur was a resident of Kapurthala and had joined the force in 2023. She had come to Patiala for commando training on March 15, 2026.
The Sadar Police Station handed over her body to her family after a postmortem. Based on the family’s statement, action was taken under Section 194 of the CrPC.
Gurmeet Singh, in-charge of Sadar Police Station, Patiala, said that SI Gulshan Kaur wanted to participate in sports and therefore exercised daily with her female colleague. The SI would climb up and down the stairs of the approximately 15-foot-high tank near her quarters.

On Thursday, Gulshan Kaur’s friend arrived late, forcing her to practice alone. During practice, she slipped and fell from the tank. The SI suffered a serious head injury, resulting in his death.
Incharge Gurmeet Singh stated that the investigation revealed no suspicious circumstances. The SI’s family was informed of the incident, and they immediately reached there. Action has been taken under Section 194 of the CrPC.
