The Punjab government’s campaign to eradicate drug abuse continues to see the police achieve one success or another. Recently, the Ferozepur police achieved a major success. They busted a drug trafficking network and arrested drug smugglers. The accused were found in possession of 7 kg 858 grams of heroin and three mobile phones, which were seized by the police.
Senior Superintendent of Police Bhupinder Singh Sidhu stated that search operations in the district were intensified following the Punjab government and the Director General of Police’s directives to take strict action against drug smugglers and anti-social elements. During the operation, on May 12, a special team of CIA staff, Zira, was conducting checking near the Ghal Khurd bus stand.

Police received intelligence that Akashdeep alias Akash and Robin Kumar were involved in heroin smuggling. They were waiting for customers near the Ferozeshah bus stand. Intensifying the operation, police arrested both of them there. 1.536 kg of heroin and two mobile phones were recovered from them. A case has been registered against both of them under the NDPS Act at the Ghall Khurd police station and an investigation has been initiated.
When the accused were being questioned, accused Robin Kumar admitted that more heroin was hidden in his house. He also revealed that Santosh Rani, a resident of Sodhe Wala village, and her minor son were also involved in this smuggling racket. Police raided Santosh Rani’s home at the same time and seized 6.322 kg of heroin and a mobile phone.

Police reported that the smugglers were operating in a cunning manner. Accused Santosh Rani and her 15-year-old son were taking advantage of the fact that a woman and a child are usually less likely to be suspected during police checks. This mother-son duo had been active in this business for several months.
