Cyclist Dies in Pathankot as Electric Pole Falls on Dug-Up Road

Recently, news emerged from Pathankot, where a happy family was devastated due to gross negligence by the Sewerage Board and the administration in Sujanpur town.

Due to incomplete sewerage work and digging of a pit, an electric pole collapsed on April 29th, killing the family’s sole breadwinner.

The deceased was identified as Pyara Lal, a 51-year-old resident of the Jammu Kaliyari area of ​​Sujanpur. Pyara Lal worked as a laborer to support his family.

The incident has angered locals. They raised slogans against the Sewerage Board, calling the incident an accident and not a mishap. They have demanded that a murder case be filed against Sewerage Board officials and the contractor. Locals said that this isn’t the administration’s negligence, but rather a direct murder of a human being by the department.

Sewerage work is underway in Sujanpur, resulting in the digging of roads and streets everywhere. Similarly, work was underway on the Shamshanghat Road in Sujanpur, and the road was dug up. Due to this, a pothole formed underground, causing an electric pole to collapse. A cyclist was passing by when the pole fell, but he didn’t have a chance to recover, resulting in his death.

As soon as the pole fell, a wire attached to the pole fell on the cyclist. Sparks flew from the wires, entangled the cyclist. By the time the power supply was cut off, the cyclist had already died. This incident has created an atmosphere of fear among the locals.

People say that safety standards are being completely ignored in the name of development work. People are demanding justice and strict action against the culprits. Locals said that they had repeatedly warned the concerned department to only dig as much as necessary. However, the department abandons the excavation work midway, which often leads to accidents.
