Recently, a real estate businessman in Zirakpur, Mohali, was asked for a ransom of ₹1 crore. The caller identified himself as Doni Bal’s younger brother living abroad and said he was keeping an eye on the businessman’s house, offices, and vehicles. Following the complaint, the police filed a report.
34-year-old Manmohan Singh alias Sonu, a resident of Baltana, told the police that on March 26, at around 6:15 pm, he received a WhatsApp call from an international number. The caller spoke in Punjabi, threatened to kill him, and demanded ₹1 crore.

The businessman reported receiving another call on March 28th. This time, the accused identified himself as the younger brother of gangster Doni Bal, who lives abroad. He attempted to intimidate the businessman by recounting an incident involving kabaddi promoter Rana Balachauriya. The accused also stated that his gang was keeping an eye on the businessman’s home, office, and vehicles.
The police registered a case under Section 308(2) (coercion) of the Indian Penal Code. The investigation has been transferred to the Cyber Crime Branch.
