According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), murderer Jimmy Gassner has been arrested from Canoe Lake, Saskatchewan. Jimmy Gassner has been charged with 2nd degree murder. He will be brought to Alberta and presented in the court. RCMP says that there were many people in the truck and they are searching for them.
In this incident, which took place on March 14, 2026, 22-year-old Birinder Singh was shot in the neck, killing him instantly. He was sitting in his car. The attackers arrived in a truck and fled after the attack. Birinder Singh was accompanied by his friends, who took him to the hospital, but he was pronounced dead there.
Birinder Singh had moved to Canada three years ago and had been living in Edmonton for the past five months. Birinder worked in construction there. Birinder was thinking of starting his own business. On March 14, he was driving his Honda Civic to Banff for the first time with a childhood friend. At approximately 2:50 pm, Birinder was driving his Honda Civic when a white pickup truck pulled up beside his car. Two men in the truck initially made a friendly gesture towards Birinder, after which they opened fire.

The bullet struck Birinder in the neck. His friends controlled the car and parked it on the side of the road. Police were called for help, but Birinder died on the spot from excessive bleeding.
Jaskaran Sandhu, president of the Alberta chapter of the World Sikh Organization (WSO), said that three men wearing turbans were sitting in the car. Police said they are also investigating the hate crime angle. However, the motive for the murder has not yet been established. However, police have stated that the victim and the accused did not know each other.
