Fed up with Teacher, Student Commits Suicide by Jumping into Canal

Recently, shocking news emerged from Faridkot. Yogesh Sharma, a first-year BA student from Sukhnawala village, committed suicide by jumping into the Sirhind Canal after being harassed by his teacher.

Yogesh jumped into the canal on April 25, 2026, and his body was recovered from the Abohar branch near Fazilka on May 2. The family is in shock following the incident. The police have launched an investigation.

Based on a complaint from Yogesh’s father, Gursewak Pal, the police have registered a case against Hardeep Singh Brar, a teacher at Guru Nanak Government College in Guru Teg Bahadurgarh village, Moga.

The accused teacher is accused of harassing the student and forcing him to commit suicide. The police are conducting raids at various locations to arrest the accused teacher.

It is being reported that Yogesh went to college on April 24th and asked his uncle for 500 rupees via Google Pay. Yogesh stated that the teacher and library in-charge, Hardeep Singh Brar, were demanding this money in exchange for not issuing a roll number and not returning library books.

The family says that the teacher publicly humiliated Yogesh regarding the books, causing him immense mental distress. Before committing suicide, Yogesh shared an emotional post on Instagram.

In the post, he expressed his grief and demanded punishment for the teacher, and also mentioned that his family missed him. The police is investigating all further matters.
