Sukhbir Badal’s Big Charge: ‘AAP Govt Pushing Farmers to Despair

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on March 25th targeted the Aam Aadmi Party, saying that the AAP was driving farmers into despair and suicide by not providing any support, be it fulfilling the promise of providing minimum support prices for 22 crops, not purchasing pulses despite government announcements, and not compensating them for the massive crop losses during last year’s devastating floods.

Following the suicide of two brothers from Faridkot district – Jaskaran and Jaswinder – after being drowned in debt, Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal said:

“AAP promised big but did not deliver anything to farmers. It did not even purchase the ‘Moong’ pulse which chief minister Bhagwant Mann promised to procure. It has not intervened to stop distress sale of cotton, maize or potatoes. It has not only failed to give the promised Rs 50, 000 compensation for crop damage but has also not given any compensation whatsoever to farmers whose crop was damaged across four lakh acres in the floods last year”.

Addressing a rally along with senior leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal party’s Punjab Bachao campaign, Prem Arora, Sukhbir Singh Badal said that the government is not doing anything except advertising. President Badal said that the AAP government has spent Rs 4400 crore on advertising. And recently it came to light that the advertising campaign claimed that Punjab is number one in school education.

“This is being done even though national level statistics have rated Punjab to be in the 18th position in school education vis a vis other States”, adding “this is understandable with even the chief minister not trusting government schools to educate his daughter and instead going for the most expensive private school for this purpose”.

SAD President Badal announced that the next SAD government will build a World Skills Training University in the area. He also announced, “Underground pipes will be installed in the Mansa constituency to provide the best irrigation services to farmers.”

“The university will have an annual intake of one lakh students and will establish centers in each district with the purpose of skilling the youth in partnership with corporate giants. This will make our youth employable and fetch them good salaries”.

Explaining his vision for Punjab, Sukhbir Badal said that SAD will not allow water to flow into the Rajasthan River.

“All water diverted from the Rajasthan canal will be diverted to the fields of Punjab. He also announced he would not allow one drop of industrial or sewage effluent to enter the Sutlej and Beas rivers. The violators will be dealt with sternly. This is absolutely essential to tackle the scourge of cancer in the Malwa belt”.

The Shiromani Akali Dal president also announced a major plan to lay concrete on all the roads of 13,000 villages in Punjab State. In which 2500 villages will be taken under this scheme every year. President Badal said that youth will be given interest-free loan of Rs 10 lakh, apart from this “Atta Dal Scheme will be restarted and old age pension will be increased to Rs 3,100 per month and Shagun allowance will be increased to Rs 1 lakh.”
