Recently, Punjab Police on Wednesday arrested fugitive Punjab MLA Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra, who is accused of rape. Harmeet had been evading arrest since he escaped from police custody last September 2025.
This is the second arrest of an MLA from the ruling AAP party this week. Earlier on March 23, former Transport Minister Laljit Bhullar was arrested for abetting a government officer to commit suicide.
On October 9, 2025, the trial court in Patiala had rejected MLA Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra’s anticipatory bail plea for the second consecutive time. MLA Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra absconded after a rape case was filed on September 2, 2025.

The police had filed a case against 50-year-old Harmeet Singh, the first-time MLA from Sunour, on September 1, 2025, on charges of fraud, rape, and criminal intimidation. MLA Harmeet was at his relatives’ house in Dabri village, Karnal, on September 2, 2025. When a Punjab police team arrived to arrest him in connection with the rape case, Harmeet escaped from the scene.
MLA Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra is denying all claims that he opened fire on the police who came to arrest him.
