On April 1, a man suspected of fighting with children near the Hanuman temple in Indira Basti, Sunam City, Sangrur district, was attacked with a sword-like weapon and murdered.
The deceased was identified as 50-year-old Rajkumar, son of Chhotu Ram, a resident of Indira Basti, Sunam City. His brother, Balinder Kumar, was also injured while trying to save Rajkumar.
Inspector Prateek Jindal, the chief officer of Sunam’s City police station, stated that a fight broke out between children in Indira Basti over some issue, after which the children’s family members also joined the fight.

After the dispute escalated, Rajkumar, along with his nephew Balinder Kumar, arrived to pacify the two parties. Meanwhile, one party called in half a dozen people to support them. The young men attacked Rajkumar with sticks, resulting in his death.
Inspector Prateek Jindal stated that a case has been registered against six of Sunam’s sons—Harry, Sawan, Gobind, Aman, Karan, and Varun—under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Police said the accused would be arrested soon and legal action would be taken against them.
